Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
